At Burnley’s most prestigious annual awards ceremony, held on Thursday, 18th June 2009, PI walked away with the Innovation Award, which recognises the successful use of innovation within a business and acknowledges the major contribution such companies make to their local economy.

Over 350 guests attended the glittering awards ceremony at Towneley Hall, which was hosted by Paul Crone, a Granada TV broadcaster; with a welcome from Paul Fletcher MBE, Chief Executive, Burnley Football Club and an after dinner speech by Dame Julia Cleverdon, DCVO, CBE, Vice President of The Prince’s Charity.

Innovation is at the heart of the company’s success with 20% of overhead attributable to Research & Development. The company has a full time Technical Manager, who works closely with two Manchester University professors in the development of new technologies. In 2008 PI launched three new products; the CRIUS 100 Autocalibrating pH analyzer, the CRIUS 3600PS Pool and Spa Controller and the CRIUS with Remote Access.

PI is the only company in the world to offer auto-calibrating residual chlorine analyzers with two-way remote communication! (CRIUS with Remote Access) This product alone helped the company to win probably the single biggest residual chlorine analyzer order ever, for the supply of over 320 analyzers to Northern Ireland Water.

The company’s continuous work with the University of Manchester has reiterated the importance of academia and industry working together to provide better services and provide original answers to customer problems.

PI also came runner up in the Award for Export Achievement and the Award for Marketing, and was recognised on the night as an exceptional shortlisted finalist.

Mike Riding, managing director of PI said: “The team at Process Instruments is delighted to have won another award for innovation. We strive to develop new and exciting solutions within our specialist area and we work hard to push the boundaries through Research & Development. This award recognises and rewards all our hard work, foresight, dedication and commitment during really tough economic times. Innovation is at the core of our business and we are looking forward to the release of two new products for suspended solids and dissolved oxygen in the coming months.”

PI operates globally with customers in Europe, America and the Middle East, including Technostar (Egypt), Tre Esse (Italy), Izasa (Spain) and Chemtrac (America).
